Victorian Rail Trails
It has been awhile since I have posted on this Blogger site but I am ready to walk and blog in a week. I need to walk but I need a walk that I can just walk and not follow maps or GPS. Not that I ever use GPS. Rail trails are great for this. You just follow your nose on a rail trail. I have walked the BVRT, the longest rail trail in Australia so didn't want to walk it again. Why not walk the second longest RT? Walk in Victoria, this can't be too hard. If I knew when I was starting to organise this walk what I now know I would have decided on another walk. Don't get me wrong it appears to be a great walk but it is geared for bike riders not walkers. There is little accomodation along the trail and some accomodation is too expensive for just a place to lay the head. I prefer local hotels when I walk as they provide a bed, usually a meal and an evening drink and of course a friendly chat with the locals.
I have booked trains, flights and beds but have had to make several changes as to where I start the main walk and use local buses to ferry me around to start the day walk. It has eventually worked out but I have ended up walking two small rail trails. Guess it will work out, you must always be prepared for these changes when walking long distances. I am always happy as long as I have a bed and a feed at the end of each day.
Again this walk is for Cancer Queensland, a training walk for the big walk in 2025 in Ireland, Scotland and England. This time I plan to raise $5000 for Cancer.
